Importance of measurement in everyday life.

In this first entry I would like to start talking about measurement and the importance it has in everyday life, because I think it is good to relate mathematics to its utility in daily life since many times we do not realize its usefulness and that We are not really aware that we are constantly using mathematics in our day to day life.
That is why in daily life measurements are constantly made both directly and indirectly, for example: the time it takes to move from one place to another, the amount of things that are bought, etc. Measurements are important, both in everyday life and in experimentation where they allow information to be collected and later organize it and draw conclusions.

The measurements have two parts: a number and a unit. Everything that can be measured is known as a physical quantity and can be measured directly or indirectly.
Direct measurement: it is a comparison between the object to be measured and an instrument that represents a standard unit or measured unit. For example: measure the length of the street, weigh a kilo of something, measure a liter of milk, etc.
Indirect measurement: is carried out by measuring one or more quantities and thus obtain the measure of something else. For example: speed or distance requires knowing distance and time. Another example: measure the height of a building using the shadow it projects and the angle formed by the sun's rays with the horizontal.

With respect to all this, I would like to collect an interesting fact about the English scientist William Thomson Kelvin (1824-1907) who summarized the importance of measurement as an essential part of the development of science, in the following comment: "I often say that when you can measure and express with numbers what you are talking about, you know something about the subject, but when you can not measure it, that is, when it is not possible to express it with numbers, knowledge is insufficient "

With this reflection I conclude that like many other aspects of mathematics, measurement is one of the most important because it is clearly part of our daily life, if we did not measure, I think we would be lost more than in one occasion and life situation. Therefore, I consider it important that this part of mathematics in particular must be taught to children in an interesting way so that they see it as something necessary for daily life and that it has great utility.
